The Court of Justice is training legal professionals in Burkina Faso in UEMOA Community law

The UEMOA Court of Justice is organising a national seminar on training and outreach regarding UEMOA Community law at the Lancaster Hotel in Ouagadougou, in collaboration with experts from the UEMOA Commission, aimed at judges and lawyers from Burkina Faso.

The proceedings were opened on Tuesday 20 October 2026 by Mr Kuami Gaméli LODONOU, President of the UEMOA Court of Justice, in the presence of Mr Emmanuel KONENE, representing the Minister of Justice, and Mr Jacques SORE, representing the President of the Bar.

In his address, the President of the Court of Justice highlighted the importance of organising this training session, noting that the Court’s role in ensuring compliance with the law regarding the interpretation and application of the Union Treaty cannot, in his view, be fulfilled without a thorough understanding of Community law, particularly by members of the judiciary.

During this national seminar, participants will be briefed on the legal and institutional framework of UEMOA, the jurisdiction and procedures before the WAEMU Court of Justice, the free movement of goods and persons within UEMOA, and UEMOA competition law.

The workshop will conclude on Friday 23 October 2026.
