The UEMOA Court of Justice at the University of Parakou in Benin

It is through the academic world that the Court of Justice began its activities to promote community law at the beginning of 2020.

At the request of the University of Parakou, which organized the official opening of its Professional Master’s programs around the theme “The Future of UEMOA Community Law” the Court dispatched an information and training mission on UEMOA community law to the northern capital of Benin starting Monday, January 13, 2020.

Judge Euloge AKPO of the UEMOA Court of Justice

 

Composed of Judge Euloge AKPO (Head of the Mission) and Mr. Hamidou YAMEGO, Deputy Registrar of the Court, the delegation from the Court of Justice will, on this occasion and throughout the week, deliver a series of lectures to students on:

  • The legal and institutional framework of UEMOA;
  • The Court of Justice of UEMOA: competencies and applicable procedures;
  • Competition law within the UEMOA space;
  • The free movement of goods, persons, services, and the right of establishment.

The teaching staff of this temple of knowledge will not be left out. The delegation will engage them on scientific topics such as:

  • Environmental concerns in UEMOA community law;
  • Bringing UEMOA community justice closer to the litigants.

Through this activity, the Court of Justice aims to establish a partnership with the universities of the Member States of the Union for the teaching of community law.

The mission is scheduled to conclude on Friday, January 17, 2020.
