THE PRESIDENT OF THE UEMOA COURT OF JUSTICE AT THE AFRICAN COURT ON HUMAN AND PEOPLES’ RIGHTS

A delegation from the UEMOA Court of Justice, led by its President, Mr. Daniel Amagoin TESSOUGUE, made a working visit to Arusha (Tanzania) to the headquarters of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. They were received on Monday, March 21, 2022, by the Honorable Judge Imani D. ABOUD, President of the host High Court.

The two Courts shared their experiences in their respective areas of competence and convergence, as well as in areas of common interest. The discussions focused notably on working methods and applicable procedures, as well as on the challenges posed by digitization. This mission provided an opportunity for the two international jurisdictions to establish a framework for partnership.

President TESSOUGUE was accompanied by the Advocate General Lodonou Kuami GAMELI, Judge Ladislau Clemente Fernando EMBASSA, Mr. Boubakar TAWEYE MAIDANDA, Registrar of the Court, Mr. Ervé DABONNE, Auditor at the Court, and Mr. Narcisse HOUNYO, Documentalist and Communication Focal Point of the Court.

The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights is a continental court established by African countries to ensure the protection of human and peoples’ rights in Africa.

The delegation took the opportunity of this mission to visit institutions based in Arusha, such as the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, and the Coalition for the Effectiveness of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
